Sailing on the Wadden Sea
Sailing is always a special experience, especially on an authentic ship! Join us and discover the Wadden Sea under sail.
Sailing trips are suitable for both children and adults. No prior sailing experience is required. You are welcome to participate in hoisting the sails and steering the ship, but it's not necessary. There will always be an experienced crew member on board who is happy to explain everything. Prefer to sit back and relax? Simply enjoy the breathtaking surroundings from the deck and unwind.
There are four different sailing trips and crossings available:
Round trips:
- Nighttime drying trip: Experience the magic of the Wadden Sea at night as the ship settles on the mudflats.
- Sunset sail: Enjoy a peaceful evening on the water while watching the sun set over the horizon.
Crossings:
- Sailing from Schiermonnikoog to Lauwersoog: A unique and scenic crossing to the mainland.
- Island-to-island crossing to Ameland: Sail from Schiermonnikoog to Ameland, including an overnight stay for an unforgettable adventure.

The Balgexpres is a kind of bus that takes you to the extreme eastern point of Schiermonnikoog: the Balg. Across the water there is a seal bank
All boat and bus trips on the Wadden Sea have to take into account high and low water, so departure times can differ greatly.

Balgexpress
The Balgexpress takes you to the extreme eastern point of Schiermonnikoog: the Balg. At the eastern point you get off and you have half an hour to look around.
Shells and seals
The Bellows is a good place to look for shells. Because deep channels come close to the island, all kinds of special shells wash ashore. You can find beautiful whelks, and if you're lucky even a northern crawfish. Moreover, the Balg is the place on Schiermonnikoog to see seals. They lie on the sandbank on the other side of the water during low tide, and they also regularly swim by curiously. Come and enjoy the untouched nature and the vastness of the Balg!

✔ dogs are allowed for a fee; stop by the front desk of the visitor center for this
✔ This tour requires a minimum of 20 participants
✔ the Balgexpress departs at the intersection Noorderstreek / Torenstreek
✔ it is not necessary to print the online ticket
✔ Due to limited seats available: full is full!
This tour only takes place in the summertime (april to oktober)!
